BIRDS
Several bird species are known to nest in cave entrances including the Swallow Hirundo rustica in the entrance to Ingleborough Cave, Swift Apus apus, Jackdaw Corvus monedula, Wren Troglodytes troglodytes and Dipper Cinclus cinclus.  Dippers are characteristic of rocky upland streams in the north-west of Britain. They swim underwater to catch invertebrates and can even walk on the bottom!

The cave nesting behaviour of swallows and swifts pre-dates their more modern reliance on buildings for nest sites.
A Tawny owl has been seen on number of occasions roosting some distance into Scoska Cave.
A robin often follows the Guide into Ingleborough Show Cave.
