Sink Cave
Access The dig lies on the East side of the bridge over the Mountain Brook on the Usk to Chepstow road (B4235). A track on the left hand side of the road gives access to the bank of the brook. As this is Forestry Commission land, permission should be obtained from the Head Forester, Foresters Cottage, Itton.
Description A 2 metre deep shaft was sunk in the East bank of the brook about 10 metres above the bridge, where there was a small water flow out of the brook. From this a passage was excavated through boulders following the water in an East-South-East direction. The passage ended in a bedding plane, a few inches high, with a definite draught. The dig was abandoned and the shaft only was filled in.
