Rising Cave
Access Take the road off Gwaen Bryn-Bwch on the Pont-Nedd-Fechan to Ystradfellte road and go for about a mile to Berthllwyd Farm (at the Z bend by the duck pond). Enquire for permission to go through the field immediately behind the barn to the gorge. The cave lies in the West bank about 0.25 miles below White Lady Cave.
Description The entrance is small and dangerous, leading to a low bedding plane. It has a sandstone roof running parallel to the gorge for about 5 metres and turns West for 2.5 metres to a sump. Digging undertaken by Croydon CC. Some confusion existed over names for this cave. Cotham CG listed it at SN 911 132 and it was named Ogof Berthlwyd which confused it with another cave of the same name, but also called Ogof Lliwiog and Ogof-y-Defaid Merw (SN 913 133). Submitted to the registry by Croydon CC in May 1980.
