Cave
Access
Approach from Glynneath via Pont-Nedd-Fechan to the road bridge over the river Mellte near Dinas Rock., where vehicles may be parked. From the bridge, follow the track ESE along the North bank of the River Sychryd for 425m to the base of where the ramp once was. Go up the gorge for about 50m to where the track is supported on an artificial embankment to upturned trams. The cave lies below the enormous overhang in the cliff at path level.
Description
The cave itself has been blocked due to the action of depositing mine waste along the whole of the floor of the overhang. This is about 8m high, 7m deep and 30m long, part of the bedding joint of the Dinas Rock fold. It used to be a cave consisting of several tight passages and chambers, about 90m long and with voice communication with Will's Hole. It could be a good dig to recover the old cave.
History
David Hunt and John Truman, SWCC 1951
Hydrology
It took water from the River Sychryd as a sink from where water then flowed into Will's Hole. Probably, some still does at or below water level.
